With all that has happened in the past few weeks regarding Segwit2X, I'm struggling to understand this thing, point, showerthought, whatever you want to call it. What is the purpose of bitcoin among you users? Did you subscribe to the system because you disagree with how regular fiat works? That you refuse to let the few giant banks dictate the economy of the world, and consequently, your own store of wealth?
But now, based on my understanding of what has occurred, is that a bunch of individuals (each with their own select agenda) behind closed door has dictated how the path should be moving forward (never seen miners signal to signal so quickly overnight). I can't help but wonder, did we just phase out the draconian devils for new-age devils? how is bitcoin now not different from the fiat, with regards to the influence of politics?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to talk about Segwit or HF, or get into a fistfight over which is better. I'm just more concerned with the process of HOW Segwit2x came to be: that a bunch of individuals have essentially dictated (you call it compromise) on what's going to happen next with where the cryptocurrency concept is headed.
There must be a way to adapt the system where either more humans are able to provide input into the consensus system, or that the element of human influence is removed completely from the equation (my wacky mind runs to ideas like machine learning algorithms that dynamically modify networks rules on the fly to maximize things like block propagation speed, transaction throughput, etc; this of course, might just be my sci-fi fantasy).
Politics will be the death of bitcoin IMHO. Does anyone else share the same concerns as I do?
